Pastel watches? They are definitely not “girly” colors, really no color is just for women and now pink, blue, yellow and green in light and bright tones are the big trend in men's watches.
Michael Jordan has known this for decades (he has a famous Rolex Daytona with a pastel blue dial) and now the world knows it too. When it comes to watches there is no limit to creativity and the options are endless, you can play with materials, styles and even colors, so that each of your looks has its own accessory.
Recently, menswear has been taking more risks, there's talk of skirts, dresses, nail polish and makeup, but that's not for everyone (it depends on your personality and confidence), so playing with accessories is a smart way to have a more creative look and think outside the box.
The classic metallic watches and those with leather straps never fail, but now the trends are betting on color. Luxury brands have introduced dark green versions of their most iconic models, but versions in baby blue and other similar colors are also starting to appear (Wes Anderson would be proud).
Traditionally, black is the most popular color for the dial of men's watches. Green and navy blue took the early 2021 by storm and now more festive and summery hues are setting the new trend, with brands like Rolex, Braitling and Hublot already on board. And the best part is that they are unisex.
Is it a casual or more formal watch? It's not that you can't wear colored pieces in dressier situations, but you should always make sure that the style of the watch is appropriate for the occasion. A metal watch with a colorful dial, for example, is a great way to add color to a formal look, perhaps matching the color of your tie or handkerchief.
You can be as colorful as you want, but if you want a winning and coherent look, what you can do is reflect the colors of the strap or the dial in the pieces of your outfit, choosing a shirt with a pattern that presents details in the same color as your watch, playing with your socks or even your shoes.
Keep in mind that metal straps tend to be more casual, but that doesn't mean you can't wear them with a suit, although it's not the best option for a tuxedo.
You do not have to wear the watch alone, you can accompany it with other accessories such as bracelets and rings. If you do, keep in mind that metals look better together, while leather accessories look better with a leather watch.
In addition, you can add a thread bracelet that has colors that complement and combine well with your watch, that will make everything look intentional.
Size matters, first because it is what determines whether a watch looks good on your wrist, but also to make a piece look more elegant. Larger watches are rugged and casual, while those with thin straps and smaller cases tend to be more formal and sophisticated.
As with clothes, there are colors that look better with different skin tones, so make sure you choose one that goes well with your tones, otherwise it can look weird, especially if you are going to combine the watch with your outfit and you end up choosing one that makes you look pale or dull.
Pastel colors look great when you wear them together, so don't be afraid to use different colors. But, if you're not ready for a colorful explosion, you can always go for a monochromatic look and use the watch as the eye-catcher.
