The reform of this house in Barcelona shows that minimalist decoration is not incompatible with charm and warmth, as long as you know how to work it. Just like LaiaUbia Studio does with a style in which he feels like a fish in water. “For this project we wanted to respect and highlight the existing textures and materials as much as possible. Achieving balance and harmony with our designs and combining it all with the needs of the owners and functionality. Thus, we highlighted the exposed brick wall, we relocated and took advantage of the existing doors and we kept the staircase and the original wooden beams”.
Distributed on two floors, this 120-square-meter house has a study, bathroom, living room, kitchen with dining room and patio on the ground floor, and reserves the first floor for the night area with a full bathroom, two bedrooms and a laundry-studio space, open to the staircase. One of the main objectives of the reform was to promote the entry of natural light in order to both illuminate every corner and reduce the energy bill. For this, skylights were created in the kitchen and the staircase and an enclosure with an accordion-type opening was made, which allows the interior to be fully opened to the 80-square-meter patio. To unify, all the floors outside and inside are troweled concrete.
