At the end of 2020, Lolita Ayala started a clothing business; Through her Twitter account, she announced the sale of her "Phil Barrera T-shirt" that was already on sale in her online store. From there she started to get more merchandise: T-shirts from Pharr, Texas, by Phil Barrera again and, more importantly, her famous phrase “It's already gone”.
But there is a goal behind that marketing. In an interview for De Primera Mano, Lolita Ayala explained the reason why she launched this line of clothing and accessories. Her daughter was the one who came up with the idea : “Knowing the situation of Solo Por Ayudar and that all foundations are the same, (my daughter) had the idea of taking out these t-shirts, sweatshirts and some items with my photo and, well, now Phil Barrera is circulating.”
Lolita Ayala is the founder of the organization Solo Por Ayudar , which originated in 1985 as a form of support for the victims of the earthquake in Mexico that year. Since then, the foundation has dedicated itself to various causes; however, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Solo Por Ayudar has stopped receiving donations and general support. Faced with such a situation, they decided to take advantage of their own meme.
The idea is that, with the funds that she raises with this line of clothing and accessories, Ayala can continue with the advancement of different programs of her foundation that was to support kidney transplants and against cancer.
Given this situation, recently one of their products began to go viral. It is a gray cap with the phrase "Make Phil Barrera great again" and such was the success of this product, which costs 375 pesos, that it is currently out of stock in her virtual store.
But it was a young man on Twitter who quickly went around the world of the internet, after sharing an alleged conversation with his mother to tell her that she wanted to buy one of these products.
In the conversation, the Internet user asks his mother if he can buy the cap, to which his mother asks who he is.
“ He is the spokesman for customs and border protection of the United States. He said that almost 100 kg were hidden. Highly addictive and harmful drugs that came from Reynosa Tamaulipas ”, he would explain @ emiliopinzon19.
Given this, his mother asked if Phil Barrera had been brave and receiving a positive response, the lady asked who was promoting the campaign.
"Lolita Ayala," replied the young man. And the following message from his mother says: “ ok love. If you trust and want to support for the common good, go ahead”.
The laughter and reactions from Twitter users did not take long to appear and several recalled the old episode that marked the career of the news anchor.
This episode happened in 2014, when Lolita Ayala spoke on an old program about the case of a Mexican in Pharr, Texas, United States, who had drugs in his car. However, when the presenter tried to say Phil Barrera's name, she began to have trouble speaking because of phlegm that she found no better time to bother her. Hence, many memorable phrases emerged, not so much because of the words she said, but because of the hoarse voice of the presenter .
