The metaverse was first imagined by writer Matthew Ball and is about a digital universe in which users can interact and live. Recently, Mark Zuckerberg has taken this idea to present his metaverse, an expansive network of 3D worlds and persistent simulations in real time.
In a nutshell, the metaverse is a digital world on the Internet that supports 3D virtual environments online and would have an economy of its own, possibly based on NFTs. This is done through personal computing, similar to online games like Second Life, and the use of peripherals such as virtual reality or augmented reality headsets.
The arrival of the metaverses has caught the attention of many brands, who have seen in these virtual spaces a new space in which to create advertising and promotion strategies. It is for this reason that metaverses will have an impact on many aspects of marketing such as:
-Augmented Reality: Augmented reality will allow users of a metaverse, for example, to try on a piece of clothing or shoes to find out how they will look in real life. This technology may be used by brands to promote certain products.
-Virtual Reality: Virtual Reality can be implemented in metaverses for product development, but also for the sale of digital versions of physical products or services.
-Virtual stores: The metaverses will bring with them new ways of selling, one of them will be the virtual stores, which users will be able to visit in a realistic way, as characters from the metaverse. In this sense, dynamics such as pop-up windows can be implemented, which will allow establishing contracts, advertising or selling their products and services to other users.
-Brand image: Some brands, such as Adidas, have joined the metaverse early. In the case of Adidas, the sports brand has bought a plot of land in The Sandbox and has partnered with NFT brands like Bored Ape Yacht Club to create digital products in the form of NFTs.
-Virtual events: The metaverse will be an infinite space where we can have work meetings, but also have fun. In this sense, brands will be able to organize events in these virtual spaces. For example, Lil Nas X performed a live concert through an avatar in one of Roblox's virtual worlds.
-Virtual classes: The metaverses will bring big changes to the way virtual classes will be given, which can be expanded. Companies will be able to use the metaverse and virtual or augmented reality to conduct training classes on a specific product or service. They will even be able to use the metaverse for product demonstrations to potential customers.
