After the absence in 2020 for the pandemic, as every first Sunday of November, the New York Marathon filled the streets of the American city with 33.000 runners animated by crowds in an atmosphere of celebration in the 50th anniversary of the test that celebrated its first edition in 1971.
The race was more American than ever, with fewer foreign corridors for the still hard travel restrictions, which already decay for Spain, and a 40% participation less than that of other years.Kenya triumphed, with Peres Jepchirchir, the first wife who links Marathon's Olympic gold and victory in the Big Apple in the same year (2h22: 39), and Albert Korir, which won with a chrono of 2 hours, 8 minutes and22 seconds.
Another of the protagonists of the test was the legend of the Kenenisa Bekele track, the second fastest man in the history of the marathon, which however closed a bad autumn in the distance of Filipides, because after being third in Berlin at the end of September, in New York he could only reach the goal in 6th position in a time of 2h12: 52 that was quite disappointing for a man who presented himself as a favorite.
