The emblematic name of the largest chain in the world disappears in Argentina. The motives.
Los Andesmartes Newsroom, September 21, 2021The Walmart brand says goodbye to the Argentine market and will be replaced by another name and logo, in keeping with local businesses Changomás, all owned by the same owner, Francisco De Narváez.
Ten months after taking control of the company, the new leadership decided to continue in the business with the brand developed locally by Walmart. Gradually, the old Walmart Supercenters began to have their new image and flag: Híper Changomás (or stylized HIPER ChangoMâs).
According to the Trade and Retail portal, the Changomás proposal was seen with good eyes from day zero of the disembarkation of the group headed by Francisco De Narváez. The low price format, with a focus on the interior of the country, caught the attention of new investors, and from there they leveraged the transformation to separate themselves from the brand of North American capital< /b>.
As for the new logo, the Walmarts will have another style, without the characteristic green of the Changomás.
The new flag uses a different typeface and continues with colors similar to the Walmart logo (light blue and yellow). With the new Híper Changomás image and with the change of flag, a new layout is already being presented in some stores.
This important change is the culmination of the process that began at the end of last year when the businessman Francisco de Narváez finalized the purchase of Walmart Argentina, for a figure close to US$44 million.
The operation included the transfer of 52 stores that operated under the Changomás brand and another 31 hypermarkets -larger branches- that originally operated under the Walmart name and will now be gradually replaced by the brand Hyper Changomás.
According to La Nación, the Walmart/Changomás chain controls 12% of the Argentine supermarket business and occupies fourth place in the ranking behind Carrefour, Coto and Cencosud ( Jumbo/Disc/See).
In Mendoza, Walmart has three hypermarkets: Dorrego (Guaymallén), Godoy Cruz and Las Heras.
