Tamara Alonso (Vigo, 1990) opened her Instagram profile for vegan recipes (@dedondesacolasproteinas) to make it easier for her family: "I changed my diet and the people around me took me as a reference." In this way, she wanted to save time in responding to the requests of her aunt or her mother, while she created a recipe book with her experiments in the kitchen. Laughing, she remembers that she put her name out of rancor: "Everyone asked me where I got the proteins from." Her online sustainable clothing brand, Slowcracy, was also started by a personal need, the result of becoming aware of environmental issues: "I couldn't find something that fit what I wanted," she says.
She is firm in her convictions, she promotes the evolution of the current consumption model and the importance of seeking long-term sustainability. That is why the need arose to transfer her informative work to a larger scale. Along with Patricia Menéndez and Ana Gontad, she has launched Vegana.gal, the first vegan fair in Galicia, which will be held at the Ifevi, in Vigo, on October 23 and 24.
a vegan community
The fair appears as a showcase for local vegan and sustainable trade. “There are many businesses here, but either they don't know each other or they don't have the visibility they need.” At the moment, 70 of the booths are reserved. The event will feature handicraft, food, fashion and footwear, cosmetic or florist brands. They will also offer cooking demonstrations, talks, workshops or tastings. Taking advantage of Vigo's proximity to Portugal, the neighboring country will be present in the same way: "It is one step ahead of Spain in the vegan option."
