SALOMON S/LAB PULSAR SG: LIGHTNESS AND GRIP FOR TECHNICAL TRAILS. Our TRAIL SHOES section today brings us a more in-depth technical analysis of the new Salomon S/Lab Pulsar Softground. As you may remember, we present the Salomon Running 2022 asphalt shoes, Salomon Trail Running 2022, the S/LAB 2022 range and even Salomon Senderismo 2022.
With this article we continue a series where we have analyzed in more depth the new Salomon Pulsar Trail Pro, the Salomon Phantasm CF and now, these Salomon S / Lab Pulsar SG.
The Salomon S/Lab Pulsar SG will come with a price of €180-200 (to be confirmed), 194 gr. a 6mm drop and 4.5mm studs.
The demand for more technical running shoes, apparel and gear increases each year as top trail, road and track athletes continue to push the boundaries of what's possible, both in terms of where they run and how fast they move. .
Whether it's setting new Fastest Known Times (FKTs) on legendary trails, breaking trail racing records, or breaking road and track records, the notion of what's humanly possible seems limitless these days. New technology in trail and asphalt shoes has certainly played a part in these efforts.
The Salomon S/LAB running range for Spring/Summer 22 is designed for runners whose goal is to compete at the highest level, or at least improve themselves every time they lace up their shoes and hit the starting line. Through collaborative development efforts with top athletes like trail running legend Kilian Jornet, the S/LAB range offers a series of technical footwear and apparel options designed to help athletes go fast and feel light.
Especially for spring/summer '22, Salomon brings a composite fiber plate to its road shoe range with the S/LAB Phantasm CF and updates the ultralight and precise S/LAB Pulsar trail running shoe (Kilian's shoe of choice). with a Softground version designed to tackle more technical terrain.
To reduce the gap opened by carbon plates that have been used by other brands for years, Salomon has developed a new technology called Energy Blade. The basis of it, as claimed by the French brand, is to adopt an original approach to the development of carbon-coated footwear.
To do this, an insert technology has been created to meet the needs of different types of runners. This involves adjusting the material of the insert in each Salomon running shoe model, as well as the precise placement of the insert within the shoe to meet the needs of certain categories of runners. Let us now see how it is reflected in each case.
In spring/summer 2021, Salomon launched the S/Lab Pulsar, an ultralight trail running shoe that helped Kilian Jornet break the 16-year-old Sierre-Zinal race record in Switzerland in 2019.
This year, Salomon adds a Softground version to these S/LAB Pulsar. The S/LAB Pulsar Softground is fast, light (194g) and will keep you safe on muddy or wet trails.
It has Salomon's lightest midsole, but the outsole now features longer studs (4.5mm) and a new lug construction to keep you safe on technical terrain.
Thanks to the reinforced and breathable Matryx mesh, the shoe fits the foot like a glove, while the strategic cushioning helps you stay agile on technical terrain.
DECK
The feet are protected in all places thanks to the lateral mesh reinforcement and the gaiter that prevent grit or stones from entering. With a sock-like fit, the breathable Matryx® will fit your foot like a glove.
On top of that, Salomon's classic Quicklace® lacing system will provide, for those used to Salomon laces, the perfect fit.
MIDSOLE
Just the right amount of strategic cushioning will keep you agile on technical trails. It has Salomon's lightest midsole, but the outsole now features longer studs (4.5mm) and a new ultra-grippy lug construction to keep you safe on technical terrain.
SOLE
The Contagrip MA outsole with optimized geometry offers optimal grip to keep us stable against slippage, even on fast and technical runs.
This new outsole now features longer lugs (4.5mm) compared to 2mm on the original S/Lab Pulsar.
The new Salomon Pulsar Softground is a very light training/competition shoe, weighing only 194 gr. that offers the perfect combination of weight and grip comfort. Originally designed to help Kilian Jornet beat Zierre Sinal's record and now developed with deeper 4.5mm studs to take us through more technical and fatty terrain.
A fantastic shoe for technical and fatty terrain to help us run light and fast, as long as you can fit the Quicklace laces you're sure to enjoy the fit.
Extreme lightness, but at the same time with details such as the firm support of the Matryx mesh, the 6m drop and the Contragrip MA sole that make it more than just a flyer for technical and wet runs. A shoe with a wide range of use although, due to the weight, it would be advisable to reserve them as much as possible to compete.
